Goodbye to a Longtime Resident

Timbergrove neighbor Alton Behrend passed away peacefully on February 11, 2020 at 98 years old. He was a previous owner of Quality Feed & Garden Company located in neighboring Houston Heights, having taken over the business from his brother-in-law in 1949 after returning from his naval service during World War II. Alton quickly became known as “Slim” by store customers and colleagues alike, and served as sole proprietor to the company until his retirement in 1991. His colleagues shared this message on Facebook after his passing: “We love you, Alton. Rest in peace, and say Hi to Ella and Lydia.”
