Thank You, TMCC Volunteers!

Submitted by Cynthia Schwendeman, Director

Timbergrove Manor Civic Club Volunteer Appreciation “Dinner” was a little different this year, as we could not celebrate our volunteers together in person. But, we did our best to recognize all of our volunteers—from Committee members, to Citizens on Patrol, Timbergram deliverers, and more—with an appreciation gift, and we announced our Volunteers of the Year!

Congratulations to our Volunteers of the Year: Jennifer Wilson and Annette Barry

Jennifer Wilson has served our community as the treasurer of the TMCC for three years. She also has previously coordinated the Easter Egg Celebration,
and has been serving as a member of our Yard of the Month Committee. Jennifer will be missed when she moves out of the neighborhood later this year.

Annette Barry was responsible for rebooting Citizens on Patrol. As we all know, security is a focus in our neighborhood. Annette is now chairing the Citizens on Patrol effort and has done a tremendous job coordinating the volunteers.

All of our volunteers should have received a thank-you mailing that included a certificate for a “meal for 2” at Kojak’s —breakfast, lunch or dinner! Kojak’s celebrated their 20th anniversary of serving our community delicious food in September of this year.

We must take a minute to thank our sponsor since such a generous gift would not be possible without them. Thank you to Heights Mobil (at Ella and 18th ) for sponsoring our volunteer appreciation again this year! Next time you need to fill your tank or get a tune-up, consider paying them a visit.

We still have some unclaimed door prizes. Do you have ticket numbers: 644-265, 644-056, 644-197, or 644-210? You’re a winner if you do! Email the director to claim your door prize, or if you are a volunteer but did not receive the thank-you mailing.

Welcome, New Volunteers!

We are thrilled to welcome several new faces to our community of volunteers. Some are new to the neighborhood, while others have lived in Timbergrove for years and now finding more time to devote to the civic club. Thank you for stepping forward to help enrich our wonderful neighborhood!

Tanya Chaney, Membership Chair

Tanya grew up outside of Philadelphia, but has been a Texan since her family moved here in 1985. She moved to the Houston area in 1999, and lived in North Houston, Katy, and the Heights before moving into Timbergrove in 2016. Tanya received her Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas in 1993, and her law degree from the University of Houston in 2002. She works an intellectual property attorney at the Houston office of a national law firm.

Tanya has two children, who attend 8th and 5th grade at Hogg and Travis. She can sometimes be spotted playing catch with them in her front yard, or walking her overgrown Doberman around 11th Street Park.

Michele Gordon, Block Captain (Cindy Ln.)

Michele, Jason and Scarlet have lived in Timbergrove since April of this year and absolutely love the neighborhood! Previously, they lived in Montrose and Heights, and finally settled in Timbergrove as they fell in love with the sleepy streets, neighborhood feel, and majestic trees. Michele grew up mostly in Houston, but lived in England and Kuwait when she was younger. She is a former chef, so she is usually cooking up something in the kitchen for all to enjoy! She is the Director of Operations for a company that is contracted by the Department of Veteran Affairs and has been there for 10 years. She is eager to meet her neighbors and is very excited to be the Block Captain for the 6202-6236 block of Cindy Lane. The Gordon-Quinlan’s love traveling, dining out, swimming, biking, gardening, games, and spending time with friends and family in their backyard pool. They love to explore the neighborhood and can be found taking evening walks and meeting new friends.

Will Hennegan, Block Captain (Cindy Ln.)

Will and his wife Robin moved to Timbergrove in 2012, and walk Section 7 daily with their two [loud] terriers and toddler, Patrick. Will grew up in Mandeville, Louisiana, and earned Computer Science and MBA degrees from LSU. He moved to Houston after graduation where he has been managing IT projects in the oil & gas industry ever since. The Hennegans are members of Saint Martin’s Episcopal Church, and also love volunteering for the Houston Rodeo and Houston Food Bank. Of course, Will loves cooking Cajun food for family and friends, but can always count on The Boot on 20th Street for a delicious (and easier!) taste of home.

Lori Hood, Timbergreeters Chair

My husband and I ran to Timbergrove! It was everything we wanted in terms of location, space, and amenities. Where else could you find a location so close to downtown with a large enough yard a dog could muck about in?

My real estate office, Circa Real Estate is located on 19th Street. As a realtor living in Timbergrove It’s has afforded me the luxury of working so close to home. We love our view of 11th street park with our owls, rabbits and coyotes! Can you say neighbors? Our neighbors are incredible.

Chanel Richbourg, Environmental Chair

Chanel and her family have lived in Timbergrove Manor since 2016. Chanel’s husband, Phillip, grew up in on Wister Lane, so it only seemed fitting to move back to his childhood neighborhood to start a family. They now live just two doors down from Phil’s parents, Mike and Rita Richbourg. Chanel is a University of Texas graduate and sells wine for several prestigious wineries from California, Oregon and New Zealand. She is passionate about sustainability and thought the Environmental Affairs Committee Chair would be a good fit. You can find the Richbourgs out on their driveway most early evenings, socializing with neighbors and watching the kiddos play and ride bikes.

Stretch Your Legs

Cooler weather is a great excuse to get outside! We are always seeking volunteers to help us distribute the Timbergram. Each issue, you can sign up to hand-deliver newsletters to blocks of homes. It’s a great way to stretch your legs and lend a hand—and we couldn’t do it without you! So, grab the dog, the baby stroller, or just yourself! We will make sure you receive future opportunities to sign up for Timbergram delivery.
