Letter from the President

Dear Timbergrove Manor,

When I wrote this letter one year ago, our neighborhood, the City of Houston, and the entire nation were dealing with the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. I was hopeful that as a neighborhood we would soon slowly be coming back to normalcy. It was clear, though, that the effect of the pandemic will be long-lasting and devastating to many.

Throughout the last year, our residents worked tirelessly in medical care and nursing home facilities. Many first responders continued their selfless sacrifice for our benefit. Neighbors checked on neighbors, watched each other’s kids, and generally helped everyone get through 2020. 2021 seemed to bring with it a fresh start, the promise of a vaccine, and a renewed appreciation for a society focused on teamwork and service. ...And then Houston and Texas experienced the Great Freeze of 2021.

This neighborhood and our state banded together and pulled each other through. Whether it was sharing blankets or offering up a home with limited power or water, everyone has done for each other what a society needs to sustain. It is amazing to see how, in a time of great personal strain, our neighborhood has come together to give assistance where it is needed.

As we thaw out from the freeze and battle the last front of the pandemic, Timbergrove Manor and the TMCC continue to take actions to provide the neighborhood with the support, security, and social events that we all love. We have continued to hold General and Board meetings virtually for now. We hope that you can join us virtually for both the March and May General Meetings via Zoom. Last year the Board worked to reinvent our Independence Day Ice Cream social to provide for a traveling ice cream truck that allowed for social distancing outdoors, and we plan to continue that tradition. Our annual Easter Egg Hunt, while canceled last year, will be brought back in compliance with social distancing this year.

Volunteering is what makes this civic club work. If you are looking to support an event, volunteer to help with planting or décor in the esplanades and at the Timbergrove signs, or anything else you can think of, email volunteer@timbergrove.org. Finally, Block Captains will continue to be the first-line providers of updates. As we continue through 2021, your best resource will be your Block Captain to dispense additional information from the TMCC Board to you. If you do not know who your Block Captain is, please reach out to us via email here.

This is my third year as TMCC President and I have gotten to meet so many great new neighbors through this role. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me at president@timbergrove.org with concerns, needs, announcements, or any ideas for action.

Enjoy the new year and some warmer weather!
